Welcome to Lahar Lake
During your stay at Lahar Farm take a walk or 4WD out to Lahar Lake. Our lake was formed from 3 springs so the water quality is always fresh, the overflow forms the Taonui River. Lahar Lake is no longer stocked with rainbow trout and has reverted back to it's 'wild state', armed with a fishing licence you may wish to try fishing but a catch is optional ! The lake is a 30 minute walk from the Lodge and is nestled against an old lava flow now covered in forest, the backdrop takes in a full view of Mt Ruapehu.

A grassy slope invites you to picnic on the shore, while family members row the dinghy or canoe around.  A day fishing licence can be purchased on-line at the homestead, you are welcome to bring your own fishing equipment. To cover our O.S.H obligations we need to know when you wish to access Lahar Farm so come over and see us, the life jackets/paddles are kept at the homestead for your complimentary use.

If you wish to access the farm or lake in your 4WD vehicle, we charge $50 once for your weekend stay, which incorporates the full self guide farm trail with a farm map and commentary card.

Enjoy a fine afternoon on Lahar Farm then experience the wow of a pink sunset over Mt Ruapehu, evening bird calls, ducks flying in or watching trout jump then seeing a dazzling clear sky full of stars on your journey back to the Lodge.
