The best fly fishing for Rainbow and Brown trout in the Waimarino, under Mt Ruapehu

Lahar Lake in the middle of Lahar farm was formed in 2000. It is filled by three clear coldwater springs and stocked with rainbow trout. The lake outlet forms the Taonui Stream, renown for trophy Brown trout. The lake is open all year for fishing with spinners or fly, there is a dingy available, a licence is required and a day licence can be purchased from the Homestead. If you have your own fishing equipment you may walk out and fish for free. Otherwise you may like to hire our gear or book a fishing guide to Lahar Lake or further a field to the local country streams.

Seasons - Local river fly fishing season begins on the 1st October ends on the 31st of June. Although Lake Taupo, the Tongariro River and Lahar Lake are all year fisheries.
